The internet has forever changed the business models for Film and Music .  The ability build a fanbase or connect to communities of interest online has freed artists from traditional distribution networks.

On December 10, Social Media Club Richmond will present a panel discussion on the use of Social Media to Promote Independent Film and Music.  Our panel will feature:

Amy Greenlaw - FilmPop!  As Founder and Principal of Film Pop!, Amy Greenlaw combines her passion for film and knowledge of social media to promote independent film using digital and new media.  Based in New Hampshire, FilmPop! is currently promoting the paranormal thriller "Crooked Lane" (www.crookedlane.com) which has received numerous awards on the New England film festival circuit.  She has recently been called upon to share her knowledge as a speaker at such events as SXSW Interactive 2009, PodCamp Boston 2008, NAB 2009, and New Marketing Summit 2008.

Joel Burleson - Ki:Theory  Joel lives in Richmond, VA by choice. He makes glitchy cut-n-paste songs and sings along to them.  He did not go to school for this.  He and his band (Ash Bruce) have toured nationwide US, Canada, Japan and Korea.  He’s done remixes for Queens of the Stone Age, Ladytron, Sasha, UNKLE and Brazilian Girls. He continues to make music that he likes to hear in hopes of creating something that others might like to hear. Ki:Theory played at Bonnaroo Music Festival this past summer.

Jessica Gordon - The Trigger System

Jessica Gordon learned the ropes of the music industry by working for seven years as a bartender and later bar manager in the popular underground venue once called Twisters near the VCU campus. When the club closed, Jessica reopened it as 929 Cafe and began booking concerts under the name of The Trigger System. As her business expanded, she began placing shows all over Richmond and occasionally in Va Beach and Charlottesville. Currently, The Trigger System books the majority of the national and regional acts at The Canal Club and also hosts concerts at The National Theatre and from time to time at The Camel, Gallery 5 and The Jewish Mother in Virginia Beach. Jessica Gordon teaches English at VCU and is the sole owner and talent buyer for The Trigger System.

The event will be held at the Firehouse Theater on Broad Street.  This is a small  venue, so we will only have 110 tickets available.  Tickets are available in 2 flavors: the $20 ticket includes 2 drinks; the $10 ticket does not.  There will be great food and a cash bar at the venue.  Afterparty details still being worked on so stay tuned.

Note, we will be cutting off the ticket sales at midnight, December 8 (Tuesday) so that we can give the caterer an accurate headcount, so don't wait until the last minute to register!
